The Alinsky Network

In addition to being considered the godfather of community organizing, Saul Alinsky is also arguably the foremost practitioner of socialist agitprop in America. For those unfamiliar with the meaning of the term, agitprop is a combination of agitation to destroy popular support for free markets and propaganda to sell socialism as an alternative.

Alinsky’s agitation technique was to make someone the face of an opposing business or institution and then personally destroy that individual to discredit the business or institution. His propaganda technique was to offer “hope and change” in the form of “radical change.” Yes, Obama borrowed the phrase hope and change from Alinsky.

During the 2008 election campaign, the Obama campaign avoided agitation in favor of offering undefined “hope and change” to maintain his moderate and apolitical image. The fawning Democrat press adopted the Obama propaganda to such an extent that it became a Saturday Night Live punchline.

Once its gained power, however, the Obama administration turned to Alinsky-style agitation to destroy the president’s growing legion of critics. This campaign of personal destruction is an ongoing theme of my book Never Allow A Crisis To Go To Waste, and targeted at various times Rush Limbaugh, Fox News and the Tea Party movement.

More recently, The Daily Caller has reported on how the Obama administration uses the attack dog Media Matters and various other leftist organizations under the umbrella group Common Purpose Project to release personal attacks on political opponents which the Democrat media then picks up and reports as established fact. Media Matters makes Richard Nixon’s infamous dirty tricks team look like pikers:

According to an internal memo obtained by The DC, Media Matters intends to spend nearly $20 million in 2012 to influence news coverage.

Donors have every reason to expect success, as the group’s effect on many news organizations has already been profound. “We were pretty much writing their prime time,” a former Media Matters employee said of the cable channel MSNBC. “But then virtually all the mainstream media was using our stuff.”

Go read the entire series of articles The Daily Caller wrote on Media Matters and then take any personal attack against a conservative you hear on the so called “mainstream media” as the Alinsky agitprop it very likely is.
